| I
see some people with 5 wheels and others with 4, what’s
the difference? |
 |
5
wheel skates are in the category of speed skates. Th elonger
frame allows for stability and larger wheels for greater speed.
The wheels diameter generally ranges from 80mm to 100mm.
|
| Can
I skate on the main road? |
 |
Always
stick to areas that are catered for these recreational activities.
Like skate parks and cycling tracks. Avoid inappropriate areas
like carparks, side and main roads.
|
| What
kind of blades will best suit me? |
 |
There
are generally 3 categories of skating types. They are aggressive,
speed and recreational. Knowing the type of skating you are
interested in will determine the type of blades you will buy.
Aggressive skates generally come in 4 wheels and have a smaller
wheel and frame base, this allows for a lower center of gravity
and allows for more control and stability.
Speed skates are designed for one thing… Going Fast. They
range in 4 to 5 wheels. Some even have 6! They generally have
a longer frame for stability and larger wheels for greater speed.
Recreational skates are for fitness purposes. They are designed
for good ankle support and comfort. The size of the wheels and
type of bearings will vary according to how fast the blades
will roll.
|
| What
kind of protective equipment should I wear? |
 |
Always
wear a helmet. The other proper and essential protective equipment
are wrist, elbow and knee guards. When choosing your gear, make
sure that they fit snugly and do not hang loosely. The best
protective equipment is still using your brain. Do not skate
dangerously like on the wrong side of the path or zigzag dangerously
in between other track users.
